Happy New Year!

I am so thankful for all that has happened to me this past year, the biggest of which is renting my very own studio. (Its mine! All MINE!!) I can leave messes, crank the music, spray paint inside and even drive my car in it. With this space come a ton of ideas that weren't possible before. I hope to offer classes in the new year, maybe teach some faux stuff or even drawing classes.  I may offer a class on perspective drawing too.  Is there something painted related that you would like to learn from me?

I also think I may offer open studio nights where other artists can come and work on things where they would need extra space.  And perhaps even a gallery of new art, or a shop sale of repurposed items. Who knows?! Maybe I need to sit down and plan all this out.

My ideas are running over the brim for 2013. I also want dedicate some time to focus on creating art for arts sake. What moves me.  I am so happy to be in the position I am and couldn't have arrived here without the support of my family, friends, peers, mentors, and clients.

THANK YOU!!

Happy Holidays Everyone! Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Saturnalia, or Festivus, I hope you had a great one and are as excited as I am about the possibility of what 2013 will bring. Here are some photos from the Open House held on December 1 taken by Becca Coe of Not Your Mother's Photography.  A big thank-you to my parents, Paula Henry, Gael and Dan Summerhill, and of course my incredible husband, Mikey. Thanks for the support of everyone who was able to make it out and I hope to see those who couldn't sometime soon.

Pretty in Pink and Purple

A repeat client of mine who originally met me through the Ellicott City Decorator Showhouses, asked me for my recommendation for a designer to help redecorate her family room.  Of course I recommended Paula Henry of Simply Put Interiors, the designer with whom I've painted countless Decorator Showhouses.  Paula transformed her family room into a jaw dropping gorgeous pink and purple Hollywood Regency-esque retreat! Before: (I had recently glazed the fireplace about 3 months ago...)

And after...POW!

A close up of the fireplace I redid and the wall with the custom cut stencils I made that reflect the fabric on the chairs:

A railing was replaced with a custom-built bookcase by Summerhill Cabinets.  I woodgrained the top in a marquetry design with a black inlay.  The client reads extensively and Paula thought it would be a great idea to have a place for her books.

And...

A tiny little update on a very tedious project that I'm doing at my studio, getting ready for my Open House-Grand Opening-Partay!

(Nevermind the paint on my hands.)

Deelite Design Grand Opening

Its official, I've set a date for the par-tay! Saturday December 1, 2012 from 5-9pm.  Refreshments and light fare to be served.  Please let me know if you plan to stop by.

8602 A Frederick Rd Ellicott City MD 21043

Even if the place isn't perfectly finished, its high time I celebrate this milestone in my career.  Thanks to everyone who has supported me and helped me get to where I am.

Ask the Expert...Me!

Last weekend there was a tiny little article (literally 2"x4") buried in the Real Estate section of the Baltimore Sun.  If you caught it, it was an article where I, the "design expert" (ahem, Im not a Designer, nor do I play one on TV) was asked about the hottest fall colors.  I got the call completely out of the blue and had to think on my feet.  I talked about a project Im working on right now where we're doing a deep Peacock blue/green on the walls.  I LOVE that color.  And come to find out, that Peacock color is on the cover of the October Elle Decor (subscribers) cover! Can you say "intuition?"

Thanks to John-John at the Sun for thinking of me.

Enjoy!
