What we do

At Lenehan Studios, we create artistic solutions that respond to the architecture and intent of each space. Every project begins with an in-depth consultation, either in person or in studio, where we consider scale, material, light, and narrative, and to understand your goals. Our approach is collaborative, precise, and rooted in craftsmanship.

From there, we design and expertly create work that solves visual challenges and elevates the space as a whole. We can create work in our studio or travel to wherever the project takes us, allowing for flexibility without compromising quality or detail.

Our studio specializes in hand-rendered murals, architectural plasters, specialty finishes, trompe l’oeil, gilding, verre églomisé, restoration, and fine art commissions. Each installation is conceived to integrate seamlessly with its surroundings, becoming part of the architecture rather than an applied surface.

Murals on Canvas

Many clients are surprised to learn that our murals are often executed on canvas. Once installed, the surface reads as fully integrated — visually indistinguishable from work painted directly on plaster or drywall.

Painting on canvas allows the majority of the artistic process to take place in the studio, reducing disruption on site. Installation typically requires only a few days, even for complex designs that might otherwise take weeks to complete in place.

This approach also offers long-term flexibility. When walls are properly prepared, a canvas mural can be removed and relocated, preserving the artwork as both an investment and a legacy piece. Historically, murals have been transported and reinstalled across generations; most notably works such as The Chariot of Aurora, relocated by the Vanderbilts from Venice to the Biltmore Estate in Asheville.

Canvas murals are particularly advantageous in projects under construction. The artwork can be completed concurrently in the studio while the space is being finished, allowing for efficient installation once the walls are ready.
